August 14, 2010 was a historic day for the Filipino community. The Filipino-Canadians in British Columbia celebrated the first ever Filipino cultural street parade in the City of Vancouver dubbed as Pinoy Fiesta 2010: Unang Hirit sa Tag-Init.

After so many years of waiting, for the very first time the Filipino community took the center stage in the street of Vancouver to celebrate our cultural heritage and community pride. Thousands joined the parade with colourful and amazing cultural attire and floats. And thousands more lined up on streets to witness  the first Filipino Cultural Street Parade. The biggest and the grandest Filipino event so far. Indeed, it is the Filipinos time to shine!

Filipinos from across British Columbia rose to the occasion by giving their selfless support - a true "Bayanihan" spirit in action. It has been  a great pleasure working with various community leaders, individuals, media, business sponsors and volunteers. I want to express my sincere thanks for the incredible work that you have all done and we would like to invite you to the Pinoy Fiesta Appreciation Day on August 29 at Splashdown Waterpark from 10:00am - 6:00pm. This is our small way of saying THANK YOU! MARAMING SALAMAT SA INYONG SUPORTA!

But we have to remember that the Pinoy Fiesta is a lot more than a fun filled event. It is also the tie that binds Filipinos together. The hope is for the Pinoy Fiesta to become an annual mainstream event that will create a unified look and vision for the Filipino-Canadian community. We will move forward with assurance and great confidence that the Filipino community will remain united for the common good. See you next year to the Pinoy Fiesta 2011. Sana tuloy tuloy na ang ating pagkaka-isa. Let us all  be proud to be Pinoy!
